About Benchmark

about image

Since the firm's inception in 1994, we have grown in size, moved to our new location just off the 15th street exit of Route 22, and been recognized by the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce as a winner of their Excellence in Business Award.

History

The firm was founded in 1994 by Peter Terry, P.E., P.T.O.E. and Bruce Gustin, P.L.S.. Both had been employed by an international civil engineering consulting firm that had aspirations toward large, international projects. Peter and Bruce favored providing personal, professional services to the local Lehigh Valley / Eastern Pennsylvania Region. When their previous employer announced the closing of its Allentown office, Benchmark was off and running. Benchmark continues to be an employee owned business dedicated to serving the local region. As it has grown in size, the company has reinforced the importance of each person's contribution. Every employee is empowered to assist in the growth and guidance of the company. Each employee truly is Benchmark Civil Engineering Services, Inc.

Corporate Philosophy

Licensed Professionals -

Our corporate culture requires professionalism. All of our engineers either are or are on the path to their professional engineers licenses. All of our surveyors are licensed professionals.

Continuing Education and Development -

Our training program and training budget focus on developing our staff to give them the knowledge and skills needed to get project approvals. Benchmark staff is involved in numerous professional societies including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Transportation Research Board, Institute of Transportation Engineers and Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors.

Relationships with Review Agencies -

We strive to understand the regulations and requirements so that we can get the approvals for our clients efficiently. We often find out the new requirements before they are officially published.

Focus on the Quality of our Plans and Reports -

Our team understands the importance of clear and correct plans and reports. This is not just drafting or typographical errors, this is the focus on the core elements of the design to ensure both approval and constructability.

Community Involvement

Benchmark's staff is committed to both their profession and the community. Camelot for Children Water Park - Benchmark provided pro-bono services to Camelot for Children for the engineering and surveying services associated with their new waterpark at their Allentown, PA facility. Camelot provides a gathering place for children who are seriously, chronically, or terminally ill or disabled.
Benchmark is actively involved with the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce on several committees and regularly attends their events. Our staff is also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Allentown Environmental Advisory Committee, Lehigh Valley Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the Moravian Church, and the Lehigh County Community College.

Benchmark has been recycling since its beginning and has been adding new items to our list of recyclables regularly. We attempt to buy recycled products, and to make the fullest use of reusable products possible. Benchmark works with clients and review agencies to provide electronic copies of documents and plans when allowed rather than multiple paper copies. We attempt to reduce our energy use through efficient products and practices. Benchmark encourages employees who ride bicycles to work.
